Wave Organ – San Francisco
The Wave Organ is one of San Francisco hidden jewels. If you have not been there I strongly recommend that you take a break from this busy thing called LIFE, stroll down the Marina and listen to this wave-activated acoustic marble. Peter Richards and sculptor George Gonzales installed it there for our amusement and each piece of carved granite and marble was taken from a demolished cemetery.
The Wave Organ can be best heard at high tide, and it is a lovely place to take a date, break from the city chaos or even have a tea party with your daughter. The subtle sound is created by the impact of the waves on each of the 25 PVC organ pipes that are located a various elevations in order to create the different sounds. The subtleness of its notes require that the audience becomes in-synch with the music of the waves and the environment that surrounds it. Sit down, turn your cellphones off, and enjoy the show!
